PLASTICIAN

Chris Reed, also known as The Plastician (formerly Plasticman), is a grime DJ & producer originating from Thornton Heath in the London Borough of Croydon.

He taught himself production aged 18. His track 'Venom' was his first release on the Slimzos label in early 2002.

The Plastician has definitely played a role in the explosive popularity of the genre thanks to his participation in the Rephlex Grime compilations, his primetime pirate radio shows and his recent BBC Radio One Residency slot.

In addition to his worldwide DJ schedule, the Plastician has released records on labels such as Rephlex, Soulja, ROAD, Slimzos, A.R.M.Y. or Southside Dubstars.

His musical style connects east London grime to the south London dubstep scenes.

Currently DJs at clubs including FWD in London, toured all over Europe, as well as Japan and USA. Plastician recently remixed M.I.A's URAQT track for XL

The Plastician also runs his own label: Terrorythm Recordings which released his latest album 'Beg to Differ' last summer.

"Plastician's sounds are definitely at the darker end of the spectrum, the glossy production of his slithery half-tempo beats, gunshot snares and growling basslines giving them a shark-eyed sense of threat, like getting sucked into a slick gangster movie – but even though they're mainly far from jump-up in approach, they never lose sight of their lineage in the rave. Another stirling album to file alongside Skream, Benga and co." Mixmag 4/5 review of 'Beg to Differ'
